COMMEX ’26
The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Science and Humanities at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized COMMEX ’26 – Digital Defenders, a national-level inter-collegiate event, on 6 February 2026 at the TRP Auditorium. The event was conducted for UG and PG students from across India and centered on the theme of digital awareness, cybersecurity, and responsible participation in the online world. Designed as a competitive and knowledge-driven platform, Digital Defenders aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of digital threats, cyber safety practices, and the importance of secure digital behaviour in an increasingly technology-driven society. By bringing together students from different institutions, the event encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and awareness of contemporary digital challenges while promoting a culture of informed and responsible digital citizenship.

Stay Safe Online: Cyber Security Awareness for Women in the Digital World
The Women’s Grievance and Redressal Cell, in association with the Department of Commerce – PA, ISM & IAF and the Tech Warriors Club, organized an awareness workshop on “Stay Safe Online: Cyber Security Awareness for Women in Digital World” on 6 February 2026 at the AV Hall. The session was conducted for I B.Com PA, ISM, and IAF students and focused on building awareness about online safety, cyber threats, and responsible digital practices for women in today’s connected world. Mr. Kasi Dharan T, Training Officer, Magic Bus India Foundation, Chennai, served as the guest speaker and shared practical guidance on identifying cyber risks, protecting personal information, using digital platforms safely, and responding to online harassment or fraudulent activities. The workshop aimed to empower students with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate the digital space securely, responsibly, and with greater awareness of cyber security challenges.

World Cancer Day: Awareness Begins with Us
The National Service Scheme (NSS) in association with the Department of Commerce – PA, ISM & IAF, under the Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized an outreach program on “World Cancer Day: Awareness Begins With Us” on 4 February 2026 at Mugalivakkam, Chennai. Conducted as a community-focused awareness initiative, the program aimed to spread knowledge about cancer prevention, early detection, healthy lifestyle practices, and the importance of timely medical consultation. By taking the message beyond the campus and into the public sphere, the event reflected the spirit of outreach and social responsibility, encouraging students to engage directly with the community on a critical public health issue. The session featured Ms. Pavitra Nair, IT Analyst at HCL Technologies, as the guest speaker. Held in Room No. 110, the programme was designed for Commerce – PA, ISM & IAF students and focused on offering students practical insights into career pathways, workplace expectations, and the transition from campus to the corporate environment. The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized E.V.O.L.V.E 26 on 2 February 2026 at Gallery Hall I for first-year B.Com students. Conducted as an engaging academic and developmental initiative, the programme was designed to introduce students to contemporary perspectives in commerce, innovation, and professional growth while helping them adapt to the evolving demands of higher education and the business world. The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized Brandathon ’26 on 20 January 2026 at Gallery Hall I for B.Com students. Conducted from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the event was designed as a creative and engaging platform to explore the ideas of branding, marketing, and business identity in a dynamic academic setting. Aimed at encouraging commerce students to think strategically and innovatively, Brandathon ’26 likely centered on the development, presentation, and evaluation of brand concepts, helping participants understand how brands are built, positioned, and communicated in competitive markets. The event served as an opportunity for students to combine creativity with commercial thinking, strengthen presentation and teamwork skills, and gain practical exposure to branding as an essential component of modern business and commerce education.

An Outreach Programme on Together We Feed
The National Service Scheme (NSS), in association with the Department of Commerce – PA, ISM & IAF and the Association of Honors Enthusiasts (AHE) under the Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized an Outreach Programme titled “Together We Feed” on 1 January 2026 at the Koyambedu Bus Stand. Conducted from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM, the initiative involved B.Com PA and IAF students and was centered on community service, compassion, and social responsibility. The programme aimed to support people in need by distributing food and extending care to the underprivileged in a public space where many vulnerable individuals gather. Tribal Women Leading Change: Grassroots Initiative and Social Transformation towards Viksit Bharat 2047
The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized an ICSSR SRC Sponsored Two-Day National Conference on “Tribal Women Leading Change: Grassroots Initiative and Social Transformation Towards Viksit Bharat 2047” on 29 and 30 January 2026 at Gallery Hall 1, Block V, SRMIST. The conference brought together academicians, scholars, professionals, and invited dignitaries to deliberate on the role of tribal women in shaping inclusive social transformation, grassroots leadership, and national development in the context of Viksit Bharat 2047. Spread across two days, the event featured distinguished guests including Dr. Seranmadevi R., Dr. Rajeshwari Ulango, Dr. P.B. Shankar Narayanan, and C.A. Dr. R. Madhumitha, whose participation enriched the conference with perspectives from academia, social work, finance, and community development. WOMEN’S SAFETY IN THE DIGITAL AND SOCIAL ERA
The Department of Commerce, in association with the Women’s Grievances and Redressal Cell, organized a guest lecture on “Women’s Safety in the Digital and Social Era” on 12 January 2026 at Gallery Hall 1. The session was held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM and was exclusively intended for women students. The lecture was delivered by Dr. R. C. Sripriya, Headmaster, Government Model Higher Secondary School, Arumbakkam, Chennai, who served as the resource person for the programme. The session focused on the growing importance of women’s safety in both digital and social spaces, addressing concerns such as online harassment, cyber threats, responsible use of social media, privacy protection, and the need for awareness and confidence in navigating the digital world. By bringing together practical guidance and social awareness, the lecture aimed to empower women students with the knowledge, caution, and resilience required to stay safe and informed in an increasingly connected society.

Be Your Own Boss: Lessons From An Alumni Entrepreneur
The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized Alumni Talk 2K26 on 3 February 2026 at 10:30 AM in Block V, Gallery Hall 1 on the theme “Be Your Own Boss: Lessons from an Alumni Entrepreneur.” The session featured Ms. Swetha K of the 2015–2018 batch, currently Operation Head / Senior Manager at Devi Industries, as the alumni guest speaker. The talk was designed to inspire students through the journey of an alumnus who stepped into the professional world and built leadership experience in industry. Centered on entrepreneurship, self-reliance, career growth, and real-world business lessons, the session gave students a practical glimpse into what it takes to lead, manage, and create opportunities instead of merely waiting for them. It served as a motivating platform for commerce students to understand the mindset, discipline, risk-taking, and decision-making required to become future entrepreneurs and industry leaders.

Workshop on Employability Enhancement Career Ready Skills
The Department of Commerce – Corporate Secretaryship, Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized a one-day workshop on “Employability Enhancement: Career Ready Skills” on 12 January 2026. The programme featured Mr. Daniel Samuel Huggi, Training Officer, Magic Bus India Foundation – Wells Fargo, Chennai, as the guest speaker. The workshop was designed to strengthen students’ readiness for the professional world by focusing on the practical skills required to secure and sustain a successful career. Brand Building on the Topic DECODE THE LOGO - KNOW THE BRAND
The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized an online brand-building activity titled “Decode the Logo – Know the Brand” on 27 December 2025 and 31 December 2025 for 12th Standard Commerce students. The programme was designed to introduce school students to the fundamentals of branding by helping them understand how logos reflect a company’s identity, values, and market presence. Through this activity, participants were encouraged to observe, identify, and interpret brand logos while connecting them to the businesses behind them. The event served as an engaging learning platform to strengthen brand awareness, visual recognition, and marketing understanding among young commerce learners. It also aimed to spark curiosity about how successful brands are built and remembered in the minds of consumers. As part of the programme, participants were informed that they would receive an e-certificate for their participation.

The session was handled by Mr. Karthik Subramanian, Co-Founder, DataDriven Service, who served as the resource person for the programme. The seminar introduced students to the fast-changing world of digital marketing and its growing importance in today’s business environment. It covered key concepts such as online branding, social media promotion, digital advertising strategies, audience engagement, and the role of data in understanding consumer behavior. Through the session, students gained a practical overview of how businesses use digital platforms to build visibility, connect with customers, and drive growth. The programme helped bridge academic learning with current industry practices, giving students a clearer understanding of career opportunities and emerging trends in the digital marketing space.

Industrial Visit to Chennai Port Trust
The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized an Industrial Visit to Chennai Port Trust on 22 December 2025 at 9:30 AM for third-year B.Com and B.Com Corporate Secretaryship students. The visit was arranged to provide students with practical exposure to port operations, logistics management, and the functioning of one of the country’s major maritime trade hubs. During the visit, students gained insight into cargo handling procedures, shipping and transportation systems, import–export documentation processes, and the role of ports in supporting domestic and international trade. The industrial visit helped students connect classroom learning with real-world business and logistics practices, while also broadening their understanding of supply chain operations, infrastructure management, and career opportunities in the shipping and commerce sectors.

ONE DAY HANDS ON TRAINING “SMART MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING WITH AI TOOLS”
The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized a One Day Hands-on Training on “Smart Management Accounting with AI Tools” on 22 December 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at East Block Smart Room 208 for III Year B.Com students. The session was handled by Mrs. R. Vinodhini, Head of the Department, B.Com CA, DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai, as the resource person. The programme was designed to introduce students to the application of artificial intelligence tools in management accounting, highlighting how technology can support modern accounting practices, decision-making, financial analysis, and data handling. Through this hands-on training, students were exposed to the evolving intersection of accounting and digital tools, enabling them to understand how AI can improve efficiency, accuracy, and strategic planning in the field of commerce and finance. The session enriched students’ practical knowledge and helped them explore the relevance of emerging technologies in contemporary accounting and business environments.
